Bienvenida Maelod. Could it be that you operate the rent service...?

Hello all....just joined the site today and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Kym Trice and I hail from Atlanta, GA. I plan on relocating to DR in the next 3-4 weeks. Im trying to make up my mind which area I would like to reside but unfortunately I havent (still researching).
The only decision I have made thus far is that it (residing location) will be coastal or somewhere very near the coast. Santo Domingo up to Puerto Plata. Spanish is very rusty so the residing location may have to be in a tourist of population of English speaking residents until I add a lil oil to this rusty Spanish and move later. Plus, there is a need for work and to be able to find a reasonable apartment to rent. Anyone with suggestions or advice, I welcome with open arms. Thanks!

First things first. Which has priority? Coast or work? To combine both may be possible but maybe not available.
As Squat says, come for some months (without the pressure to earn money) and make use of that time to do a lot of networking. Be careful while doing so; many people only want your best (= your money ). Of course, the question will always be: "WHAT CAN you do?" Be prepared for low wages and a change in lifestyle.

Work will be the first priority and living (or the thought of) on the coast would be second. I understand the salary is much different from US salary and I am willing to accept, with ONE exception. I would need to make sure my dwelling and basic necessities are covered.

That's quite understandable. However, basic necessities differ from person to person and an apartment in an acceptable neighbourhood may eat up all your income.
I for one regard 1,500 US$ as an absolute monthly minimum in order to live a decent life, which again is subject to interpretation.
You will have to see for yourself and make another decision in a few months.

Sooo true and I agree with you 10,000%. Maybe I should have been a little bit more specific (my mistake) but you hit the nail on the head. The $1,500 is the target amount and I consider the basics are food, electric, transportation fees back/forth to work, water, cable, internet, etc. On the other hand, if I can have some left over to drink a beer or two from time to time, that would be great as well
