| | Nice little B & B in the Colonial Zone. « Thread Started on Jun 12, 2009, 6:58pm » | |
Over the years we always stay at some large hotel while in S.D. This time we decided that we wanted to stay in the Colonial Zone so we could spend more time looking around... after our business was done.
The Coco Boutique Hotel is working out fine. 4 bedrooms only, each with private bath and AC. No TV or radios. Rooms are small but nicely done. Continental breakfast is included but they do have a small menu also. Light lunch/dinner menus also. Nice little bar in the lobby. Wifi is slow in the rooms but we have settled down in the lobby where it is fine.
The place is on a small park that overlooks the river and everything is easy to get to in the Zone by walking. (we always take the bus from Sosua and use taxi's when here.)
The husband and wife owners are great. I think that they are what make the place so comfortable/homey. They are running around taking care of the place, guests and their two small children. English, Spanish, Portuguese and some Greek spoken.
Nothing real fancy, not big, not crowded.... just nice.

We will be staying with them again.

We had dinner at a small local place about 100 feet from where we are staying. Still facing the park. Mi Isla is family owned and has "Comida Peruana, Cubana y Dominicna y Noches de Rumba".
It was nice to talk with and share with the owners and be a part of the local area. Kids, families and lovers of all ages sharing the park, playing domino's and socializing.
Very different from the tourist restaurants down by the Columbus house/museum that we have gone to many times.
We liked Mi Isla much more. We were the only "gringos" in the area and felt comfortable, safe and very much at ease. But then again, we hope that we have lost some of our "gringo" ways. (and they have a TV.) Across the street is a typical local store that they ran over to in order to replenish my cocktail desire.
Not so gringo?? Ringo
